Carlos Martínez

Founder, MRTNZ | interiors (Martínez, without the vowels)

Raised in a Mexican family in Southern California, Carlos’ early fascination with interiors began in an unexpected place. On weekends, his family would travel to Casa Leaders, a furniture showroom in Wilmington that catered to Hispanic families furnishing their homes piece by piece. The visits were practical—his parents would make monthly payments toward furniture room sets—but for young Carlos, the experience was something else entirely.

Each vignette felt like stepping into a different world. The careful arrangement of furniture, lighting, and textures carried an aspirational quality that stayed with him long after the visits ended.

Those early impressions planted a seed: that spaces hold emotional power, and that the environments we create shape how we live, gather, and dream.

Over the past fifteen years, Carlos has worked across residential and commercial architecture and interiors, guiding projects from early concept through construction and completion. Throughout that time, his curiosity remained centered on a simple question:

How can space support who we are becoming?

Today, that question sits at the heart of MRTNZ | interiors. Deeply connected to his cultural roots and to the natural landscapes of California, Carlos draws inspiration from places where landscape, architecture, and everyday life intersect.

After years within traditional architectural practice, he founded MRTNZ Interiors to cultivate a more personal approach to design-one where professional rigor and human intuition coexist. Because for Carlos, the ultimate measure of a space is not simply how it looks. It is how people feel when they arrive.

Services

engagements

Each project begins with a different point of entry.

Whether shaping a space in its entirety, refining what already exists, or guiding key decisions ahead of change, our work meets you where you are and moves with clarity, care, and intention.

Full service interior design

A comprehensive and immersive collaboration.

We guide the full arc of the design process, shaping residential interiors and select small-scale commercial environments from early concepts through construction and final installation. Through dialogue, exploration, and precise execution, we shape spaces that are deeply attuned to how you want to live, feel, and move within them.

This includes spatial planning, finish selection, and furniture sourcing, as well as coordination across all phases of design and construction. With an architectural foundation, we bring a thoughtful level of detailing to each project, from material transitions to moments of custom design where appropriate.

Every detail is considered. Every decision is connected.

The result is a space that feels cohesive, intentional, and fully realized.

Property design advisory

A focused and strategic engagement.

Designed for homeowners, real estate agents, and builders preparing a home for market or post-acquisition transformation, this service brings clarity to the decisions that shape how a space is perceived and experienced.

We assess the home through both an architectural and experiential lens, identifying opportunities to refine layout, elevate material selections, and introduce lighting strategies that enhance depth, warmth, and visual impact. Particular attention is given to decorative lighting and fixture selection, recognizing their ability to define atmosphere and create a lasting impression.

Through clear design direction and positioning, we establish a cohesive vision for the home, aligning each decision with its character, context, and intended market. Acting as an intermediary between client and builder, we develop drawings, finish palettes, and targeted recommendations that translate this vision into form. Each decision is contextually grounded, ensuring selections inherent to the architecture rather than imposed upon it.

The outcome is a cohesive and intentional environment that resonates immediately, presenting as a considered, move-in ready experience that connects with buyers and supports long-term value.

Spatial curation

A refined and intentional layer of engagement.

Designed for those looking to evolve an existing space, this offering focuses on the careful selection and placement of furniture, objects, materials, and styling elements to bring clarity, warmth, and cohesion.

Through a process of editing, sourcing, and composition, we shape the atmosphere of a space with sensitivity and restraint. Each element is considered in relation to the whole, allowing the environment to feel balanced, resolved, and alive.

This engagement also creates a collaborative point of entry for businesses, architects, and interior designers seeking support in developing a more layered and intentional visual environment. Whether refining a residential interior, styling a commercial setting, or preparing a space for presentation, the focus remains on creating atmosphere through thoughtful curation and design direction.

The outcome is a space that feels complete without excess, where what remains is intentional, and what is added deepens the experience of being within it.

apuntes

A collection of reflections, observations, and notes on space, material, and the rhythm of living.

Each entry begins with something simple. A moment. A detail. A feeling. From there, it unfolds into insight, offering a way of seeing that can be carried into the spaces we inhabit.

Apuntes is where ideas take shape in real time. A place to explore the relationship between environment and experience, and how thoughtful design can support the way we move, gather, and exist.

It is an open invitation to engage with the process, to see more clearly, and to cultivate a deeper connection with the spaces around us.
