Artisanal Suburban is both a home and a living design laboratory, the personal space of founder and creative director Carlos Martínez, now evolving into a showroom where daily life, creative exploration, and material curation unfold together.

Conceived as a live/work environment, the project explores the quiet tension between Northern California suburbia and the atmospheric richness of tropical environments often found in remote artisan communities. The intention is not to replicate the tropics, but to evoke their sensibility, a slower rhythm of living shaped by craft, material honesty, and connection to the natural world.

Furniture and objects sourced from crafts people across the globe live alongside carefully selected contemporary pieces, allowing the space to balance the intimacy of handmade work with the clarity of modern production. Tropical plantings weave throughout the environment, existing in synergy with the architecture and introducing a vibrant sense of vitality.

The space also serves as a place of encounter. Clients are invited in to experience the work firsthand, engaging with the materials, objects, and atmosphere in a way that extends beyond images. Many of the pieces within the space are available for purchase, allowing elements of the environment to be thoughtfully integrated into other homes.

As both refuge and studio, the space continues to evolve as an ongoing exploration. A place where ideas are tested, materials are observed in daily life, and the philosophy of MRTNZ Interiors is lived, refined, and expressed in real time.

This project demonstrates how disciplined design direction can strengthen a property’s market positioning without the need for extensive renovation.

Working within a defined investment framework, the objective of strategic repositioning was to refine the home’s presentation while enhancing its perceived value for prospective buyers. Improvements focused on areas where targeted interventions could deliver meaningful visual impact while aligning with the pace and priorities of the real estate market.

A fresh interior paint palette established continuity throughout the home, while updated tile flooring in the kitchen and bathrooms introduced greater material clarity. Tiled feature walls behind the vanity areas brought a quiet architectural presence to the bathrooms, and upgraded plumbing fixtures reinforced a sense of cohesion across the space.

The most transformative intervention came through the introduction of decorative lighting fixtures, which brought a renewed sense of refinement and visual identity to the home.

To complete the presentation, MRTNZ Interiors provided creative direction for the staging in collaboration with a local partner. Select furnishings from Carlos’s personal collection were thoughtfully integrated to unify the environment and express a more contemporary and intentional narrative, ensuring the staging aligned with the design vision rather than functioning as a generic layer.

The result is a home that presents with clarity, cohesion, and confidence-demonstrating how thoughtful design positioning can influence buyer perception and strengthen market presence.

This project began as an exploration of memory. For the homeowners, both raised within Mexican culture, the intention was to reconnect with the emotional warmth of the humble adobe dwellings that shaped their early experiences-spaces where gathering, nourishment, and intimacy formed the foundation of daily life.

Rather than recreating those environments literally, the design reinterprets their spirit within a contemporary context. Limewash finishes soften the walls with a quiet, atmospheric texture, creating a sense of warmth and depth. In a gesture of personal connection, the home owners painted the accent walls themselves, embedding their presence and memories into the space.

At the heart of the project was a shared appreciation for intimate communication. The home was envisioned as a place that could foster deep, meaningful exchange. This intention found expression in the creation of a breakfast nook, where daily rituals and conversations unfold with a sense of closeness and ease.

Modern architectural lighting fixtures are layered throughout the interiors, bringing clarity and refinement while allowing the warmth of the materials to remain the emotional center of the home.

The result is a living space that feels both contemporary and deeply rooted-a quiet expression of Mexican memory translated through interior design, and a reminder of the profound emotional resonance that thoughtfully designed spaces can carry.
